Wed 22 Jun 2022Dear Parent/Carer,
Re: Mary Poppins
Here are the final arrangements for the performances of our production:
Tuesday 28th June Dress Rehearsal to the school – 1.30pm
Wednesday 29th June Afternoon performance – 1.30pm
Evening performance – 6pm – 7.15pm
Thursday 30th June Evening performance – 6pm – 7.15pm
We would like to take this moment to thank your child, and you, for your support; be it for helping with lines, songs, dances, costumes and picking up at a later time. Everyone has been working so hard on how to perform to an audience and we are excited to share our hard work – it is a lovely show and we are very proud of the children.
For the evening performances, please drop your child at the school office reception at 5:30pm. They will need to be picked up from the classrooms below:
Girls – 6RI
Boys – the new classroom (to the left of the school hall; near the car park gate)
If you are not attending one of the evening performances, please do collect your child from the appropriate rear exit as they will be unable to leave on their own.
Costumes:
The majority of costumes are being provided by the school. Your child should know whether they need to bring anything in from home. All costumes should be in school by Friday 24th June in a named plastic bag. Thank you.

NMJS: School Closed 18th February 2022
Thu 17 Feb 2022Dear Parents,
Local weather forecasts for Friday 18th February are currently predicting winds in excess of 85mph when pupils and parents will be travelling to school. With most local schools locally closing owing to the severe weather warning, it is likely we will face difficulty with staffing.
While it is tempting to wait until the morning. I have taken the difficult decision to close the school tomorrow and provide you with as much notice as possible. Work for all children will be available from 08.30am, via Google Classroom.
School will re open on Monday 28th February. Please stay safe and enjoy the break.

Reading in school
Fri 04 Feb 2022Reading in School
We all understand the importance of encouraging your children to read as much as they can when they can and where they can. In school, we work hard to provide as many opportunities to not only read to learn, but also to trigger curiosity, and that love of escaping to a new world.
Each day we share new words and reflect on the impact of them. We would very much like to continue to grow this exploration, and hopefully, one day a love of reading in as many different ways as possible. We cannot make your child have a passion for reading, but we can all work together to provide as many reasons to read as we can!
We share what we do via the website, Twitter and of course via the children. Please know you are always welcome to be part of the journey.
If you would like to be involved …
Please contact Becci in the office should you wish to hear readers in the mornings. For our current parent readers, we would like to welcome you back straight after half-term.
If you would like to come in and share a story with your child’s class, please let Mrs Grinyer know.
Library opening to parents with their child
Please note that as of Monday 28th February we will be opening our library before and after school should you wish to join your child in selecting a book to bring home.
Tuesday - 8.30am
Wednesday - 8.30am
Friday - 3.30pm
World Book Day and a Book Exchange
I also thank you ahead of time as World Book Day is looming! I will send more information nearer the time, but do know we will be dressing up as book character. On the day, we will also be doing a book exchange. A few parents have already donated books that their children have outgrown - a huge thank you! If you are having a spring clean and have any books that you would like to donate to the school, please drop them to the office during the week beginning 14th February.
All we ask is that they are of good quality as each child, on World Book Day, will have the chance to choose a book to keep.
Website and Parent Zooms
For any information about reading, writing or spelling, please look at the curriculum section in our school website. Please also know that I will run some live Zoom sessions for any questions you might like answered. (a first meeting date was shared via survey yesterday (Thursday 3rd February). This first English session will be on Tuesday 8th February at 2pm.
Thank you for your continued support at home. If you have any questions, please do contact either your child’s class teacher or me at any point.

NMJS: Covid-19 Update 26.01.22
Wed 26 Jan 2022Dear Parents,
You may be aware that the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 at New Milton Junior School has significantly spiked this week. As a result, there are a number of children and staff self-isolating. At this time the school is still able to fully function and all classes are covered by our own teaching staff. However, there may be some disruption to after school activities and class assemblies in the next couple of weeks.
We will continue to follow all of the DFE guidance ensuring:
- regular deep cleaning
- regular handwashing or use of anti-bacterial gel
- high levels of ventilation throughout the school
- separation of classes and year groups in the school dinner hall
- no mixing of classes or year groups when inside
I am also considering reintroducing year group playtimes and lunchtimes for the next week in order to try and prevent transmission.
As a parent, you can support by testing your child regularly, and keeping your child at home if they either test positive or show any symptoms of Covid-19. Attached to this email is another copy of the letter sent out yesterday, which provides information on what to do if your child has a case of Covid-19.
I am sure that this latest spike is temporary and that if further restrictions are required, they will only be needed for a short period. As always, my main concern is to ensure the safety of the school community and I will continue to monitor the situation and act rapidly on any advice received.
If you have any concerns about this email, please contact me through the school office.
Thank you for your continued support
Mr Geary
