Year 4 Roman Day and DT Topic
Wed 13 Mar 2024Roman Day
As part of our History Unit on the Romans in Year 4, we have organised a Roman Day on Monday 25th March.
We are inviting the children to dress in ‘Roman Costume’, as we feel this will add to the ‘feel’ of the day! We will be making Roman shields, so if you have any spare cardboard please send that in with your child between Monday 18th and Friday 22nd March.
We would also like to invite you in to have a look around our Roman museum from 2.45 pm until 3.15 pm on 25th March. Work from the children will be on display in the hall.
DT
As part of our DT topic this term, Year 4 children will be creating healthy sandwiches after baking bread. Children will be tasting a range of ingredients (listed below), and we therefore need to be aware of any allergies or intolerances your child may have:
wholemeal, granary, and seeded bread – ham – cheese – lettuce – cream cheese – cucumber – tomatoes – margarine spread – butter
We will take extra special care to ensure that hygiene levels are high.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Year 4 Team

Cross Country, 25th January
Tue 30 Jan 2024We can all be very proud of the 15 children from NMJS who represented our school at Gang Warily in this competition. It was incredibly muddy and very competitive, with lots of competitors in every race. There were around 120 runners in the Year 5 boys’ race! Our pupils all tried their absolute best and supported each other along the way. Mrs Mead
and I were thrilled to see your fantastic efforts and team spirit. A huge WELL DONE must go to: Tom, Rafa, Mackenzie, Lemi, Khaleesi, Grace C, Ariana, Rose, Harriet T, Bella, Holly M, Finley B, Eddie H, Otis and Henry B.
Thank you. You were all awesome! Mrs Austin.

Measles
Wed 24 Jan 2024Measles
You may have seen the news regarding the rise in cases of measles in London and the large outbreaks in the West Midlands.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has now declared a national incident in order to focus actions to limit the spread. Further outbreaks of measles will spread to other towns and cities unless urgent action is taken to increase Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination uptake in areas at greatest risk. Children who get measles can be very poorly and some will suffer life changing complications.
To support this incident the Department of Education (DfE) has published: What to do if you think your child has measles and when to keep them off school guidance for parents and for schools.
UKHSA have stated that measles is not currently circulating in the south-east, there are cases in London and a sustained outbreak in the West Midlands (specifically Coventry and Birmingham but now in all local authority areas in the region) but at the moment in the SE, rashes are more than likely to be for other reasons (particularly in children). However being prepared is important.
Winter Bugs
Clare Joy – an NHS school nurse working locally – explains in this short video some top tips on keeping winter bugs at bay and using the Healthier Together app for advice.
You can watch on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS YouTube channel.
Download Healthier Together for advice with common childhood illnesses at https://www.what0-18.nhs.uk/about-us/adding-our-website or download from the App Store or Google Play.
It can sometimes be hard for parents to know the best way to help children recover from winter bugs. Healthier Together has been developed by local clinicians and gives simple advice on how to help them get better at home. The app will also help you to spot the signs if it is something more serious and guide you to the right help.

Year 5 Residential Activity Visit October 2024
Wed 10 Jan 2024Following our very successful visit to Avon Tyrrell Residential Centre, near Bransgore last term, a provisional booking has been made for 4 nights from Monday 14th – Friday 18th October 2024 for our current Y4 year group.
This visit will allow children to explore the countryside, take part in a range of activities and will also provide them with the opportunity to experience life away from home.
Avon Tyrrell is a fantastic venue for a residential and we have now led many enjoyable visits there. It is secure, and comfortable, and provides the children with an atmosphere, unlike any other residential centre.
In order to help you decide if you would like your child to attend, we would like to invite you to a meeting in the Hall on Wednesday 31st January at 3.30pm where you will be provided with more information regarding cost, payment dates and activities.
